TOP 5 NEW KITCHEN TRENDS IN PERTH
It seems like we have blinked and found ourselves in the second half of the year, surely it was only last week the Christmas tree came down?! Well, this year has truly settled in, bringing along with it some fresh new kitchen trends and style ideas, and plenty of inspiration for the budding renovator to sink their teeth into.
Let’s take a look at some of the trends that we have seen emerge for new kitchens in Perth for 2019, and what we expect to see over the coming months as we close out the rest of the year.
1. Take a walk on the dark side
A colour palette of neutral and white tones is a safe and reliable choice, which can be used in almost any style of kitchen, however for 2019 we have seen this start to shift as we start to introduce some deeper and more luxurious hues into our homes.
Most popular at the moment are the luxe-modern jewel tones, think sapphire-blue, emerald-green and onyx-black. These dramatic shades look stunning and raise the elegance levels through the roof when incorporated as panelled cabinetry. If the thought of an all-dark kitchen scares you then another option is to pair off some of these moody tones with some ‘safer’ options. We love seeing kitchens with deep colours for the island and under-bench cabinetry, contrasted with white overheads or an indulgent creamy marble benchtop, which also helps to bring some light and depth into the room.
2. Effective storage solutions
We are seeing more and more that people are forgoing overhead cabinetry, resulting in an opening up of the visual space, which in turn makes the kitchen appear much larger and brighter. Oftentimes, overhead cupboards can be an ineffective use of space as many of us are tall enough to properly utilise the storage without resorting to step-stools or standing on our tippy toes!
This is where the functionality of your under-bench storage becomes paramount and it’s important to ensure that none of the valuable space is wasted – which can happen a lot when it comes to corners that can be wide, deep and not overly conducive for easy access of your most needed appliances.
To counter these storage challenges homeowners are starting to look for better storage solutions within their cabinetry. These can include: drawer dividers for cutlery & utensils, pull-outs for spices, tray dividers, roll-out trays and caddies for pots, pans and cleaning products; as well as wastebasket cabinets for garbage and recyclable items. All these products are genius and we can guarantee they will make it much easier for you to store your products in a functional kitchen that doesn’t give you a headache each time you need to locate the grater!
3. Matte black & copper detail
They say the devil is in the details, and we have been seeing some truly gorgeous finishing touches popping up in kitchens all over Perth! It’s clear; matte-black is the new… well, black! With tapware, sinks, door handles and well-styled accessories all available in this moody colourway, the influx of matte-black has hit and is a sure-fire way to bring an industrial and trendy feel to your space.
Brassware is the jewellery of the kitchen and we are also loving the revitalisation of copper and gold metals which we have seen beautifully utilised in the form of overhead pendant lighting, unique door handles and copper-toned splashbacks. Using these elements strategically results in bringing warmth and personality into the room, without being too overwhelming.
4. Texture on texture on texture
As we move away from stark minimalism in the home, incorporating texture is one way to create a layered look that mixes the traditional with the modern. A concrete look surface is a great way to bring in the beauty of depth and when combined with timber elements such as wood-grain cabinets or a bar stool, it subtly elevates that sought-after luxe feel to any room.
Other ways we have embraced texture this year has been by the use of unique handles, panelled shaker doors, glass fronted cabinets to boldly display treasures, and the emergence of shelving in the form of rough-cut wood or metal slabs.
5. Let the outside in
For kitchens, the window style splashback makes practical sense, as it’s a source of that all-important natural light. Not to mention they can also be opened up to let a breeze through when cooking.
Used creatively, window splashbacks can create an illusion of a larger space, making the style a saviour for small kitchens. Add in strategically planted garden beds with lush palms, or a gorgeous view to the back yard and you can see why the window splashback has been such a big trend across our kitchens in the first half of 2019. We don’t expect it to be going away any time soon!
If your home isn’t positioned in quite the right spot to add a highlight window, then consider bringing in the greenery in the form of plants – think unique pots and hanging vines draped down an open shelf.
