SPACE SAVING IDEAS FOR SMALL KITCHEN RENOVATIONS

Incorporate overhead storage

If you don’t have a great deal of cupboard or drawer space, overhead cabinets can be a great option to give you more storage. Opt for a design which incorporates as many overhead cabinets as practical and you can extend to the ceiling for optimal space. Overhead storage can also be used as a design feature with options such as glass cabinet fronts or exposed shelving for display purposes.

Choose compact appliances

Appliances take up a lot of space in the kitchen so it’s a good idea to think carefully about whether you can be more efficient with the size of your appliances. For example, if you don’t tend to cook for large groups then perhaps a high quality but compact oven would be sufficient. If you already have an outside fridge, you could opt for a smaller model in your kitchens.

Use a smaller sink

The standard double sink takes up a lot of room and can dominate bench space in a small kitchen. Instead, consider a single sink to maximise your bench space. You can also choose an undermount sink where the edges are covered by your benchtop. This not only looks great by creating clean lines in the kitchen but also gives you a tad more bench space – every inch counts if you have limited space!

Use your island bench

If you have the room for a small island bench, make sure you take advantage of this in terms of storage. Cupboard, drawers or even a wine rack can be integrated into your island bench so you not only have a place to sit but also additional storage. You can also look for compact bar stools which tuck neatly under your island bench for optimised space.
